Are you a "beaconist" ?
This could be defined as; a person that monitors sections of the normally dormant radio
spectrum (usually the upper end of HF assignment, and the VHF
& UHF spectrum) in order to detect radio beacon signals. These continuously running radio-beacons are used to indicate to distant monitoring enthusiasts that the band is "open"
i.e. significant long range propagation is evident, due to; tropospheric ducting, ionospheric reflection/refraction, meteor showers, sunspot cycle, auroral reflection, aircraft enhancement, etc (all which are well documented).
Here is a selection from the 10 metre (28MHz) band that I logged/recorded during cycle 23 sunspot peak of c2000.
With some effort, I've managed to recover these audio files from an old hard drive.
I had used EXCEL 5 (95) with which you could store small (.wav format) soundbytes in any "cell" in the spreadsheet
However modern versions of Excel don't support this feature!
Therefore I had to rebuild an old Excel 5 and many files (esp .DLL files) were missing from my present PC's hardrive.
Luckily I found them all on the web.
I initially thought I'd lost the audio files for good!
