Radio Australia VI3RA Activation 2020The decommissioned (c2017) Radio Australia transmitter site at Shepparton is listed, for sale, and the antenna farm will, in future, most likely be demolished ! A Special Event Amateur Radio HF station at Radio Australia transmitter site, was activated: March 14-15 2020 The radio call sign issued for the event: Victor India 3 Radio Australia – VI3RA. A team of radio amateurs will utilize the high-gain antennas and give operators throughout the world a chance to contact a station using the various high performance (some 15-20dBi) rhombic, curtain antennas etc. I have recorded some "off-air" audio sample's of VI3RA Amateur activity using the redundant large antennas at Shepparton.
VI3RA working VK4BR and KK6ZM 40m/80m bands 14 Mar 2020 A very useful feature of the activation was that; the operating frequency of each of the 3 transceivers in use at VI3RA, could be monitored thru a SADARC webpage (Shepparton and district Amateur Radio Club website) so as you then know what frequency they are currently using, instead of needing to tune the bands, so as to pick-up their signal! This screenshot webpage video shows an operator changing the transceivers frequency.
