My inspiration derives from the following websites: (clickable links)
Based on the success of others (above); One could construct and connect this HF "up-convertor" This will then translate the MF/HF spectrum (0.5~30MHz) to within the tuning range of the "dongle" (64~1700 MHz) 0.5 MHz is the lower limit of the ADE-1 passive/diode mixer. (0.5-500 MHz +7dBm) Filter inductances are easily measured using my LC meter, and a good starting point is to use an on-line calculator like that from Harry SM0VPO, to estimate Nr of turns, coil diameter etc. The low-pass and high-pass filters are based on standard designs that I found in my 1975 ARRL handbook (pg 50) "click to enlarge"
For a well written analysis of up-convertors and the "RTL2832 dongle" see: http://f5rct.free.fr/explorer/Documents/Banc.Essai/HFconverterReport.pdf For a critique of the "RTL2832 dongle" w.r.t. poor RF sensitivity, see: http://www.vklogger.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=23&t;=10527#p24765 |
