Line Section Impedance Diagram
The Line Section Impedance Diagram is an illustration of both open and shorted line sections showing:
1. Impedance
2. Standing wave voltage variations
3. Equivalent circuit configurations
The standing wave variations are referenced to a generator positioned at the left hand end of each standing-wave display with its equivalent impedance and circuit referenced directly above each generator position.
The generalized impedance variation is also shown.
An important and useful thing to note, is that any λ/4 section will "invert" the impedance
i.e. high resistance becomes low resistance, inductive reactance becomes capacitive reactance and vice-versa.
Also a length of a λ/4 section has the ability to match impedances at each end, as follows;
